The School of Artisan Food is dedicated to inspiring and helping people from all walks of life to learn about healthy, sustainable and delicious food. We offer a wide range of hands-on courses taught by world-class tutors, in a unique environment within the grounds of the beautiful Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire.

We are part of  the Welbeck Community, working alongside consultancies and technology companies, creative and artisan businesses, food producers, publishers, designers and artists.

The unique location offers all the benefits of easy access to the larger cities and towns of Sheffield, Chesterfield and Nottingham and is only a 15-minute drive to both the M1 and the A1.

Associate Tutor in Viennoiserie and Patisserie

Hourly paid work

Typically, 24 x 6h- or 7h- teaching days per year in blocks of 3 to 5 days at a time.

Variable depending on the teaching timetable. 

A 30 min break (unpaid for lunch should be taken on days exceeding 6 Hr).

Pay and benefits

Paid at an hourly rate for teaching delivered in accordance with a pre-agreed schedule (negotiated at the start of the academic year). The rate of pay is at a higher rate, in line with equivalent pay-rates for the higher education sector, acknowledging that teaching hours include preparation, administration and assessment activities (including standardisation, moderation etc) that are considered part of, not additional, to paid-for teaching hours.

Accommodation and travel expenses are not typically paid unless your home is located outside of a standard commute radius. 

Holiday entitlement is paid as an uplift to the teaching hours rate, depending on the number of hours actually worked and pro-rated on the basis of a full-time entitlement of the statutory minimum of 28 days holiday during each full holiday year (including public holidays in England and Wales).  

Role Description

We are seeking a dynamic, capable, and, ideally, professionally qualified tutor to module lead, deliver teaching and assessments on our levels 4 and 5 Higher Education viennoiserie and patisserie modules, making teaching contributions based on the skillset of the successful candidate.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals with an artisan viennoiserie and patisserie background with higher education teaching experience to further their career, in a fascinating, fast-paced environment.

As a valued member of the team, you will be responsible for maintaining The School’s good reputation and high standards in the delivery of our viennoiserie and patisserie higher education modules and contributing more broadly as a member the higher education team.

Chair of Trustees 

Location
The School of Artisan Food, Welbeck, Nottinghamshire (Board meetings primarily in person, with regular virtual meetings

Time Commitment
Approximately 2–3 days per month including:

  • 5–6 Board meetings per year
  • Occasional committee or working group meetings
  • Regular one-to-one meetings with the CEO
  • Annual events and/ or trustee development activities

Purpose
The Chair provides inclusive, values-led leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring The School of Artisan Food is well governed, financially resilient and focused on delivering its charitable mission. Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive, the Chair supports effective decision making, constructive challenge and a strong organisational culture rooted in integrity, collaboration and ambition. The Chair plays a pivotal role in stewarding The School through its next phase of growth and extending its impact in artisan food education and policy.
